Police have arrested a man for the burglary of more than 100 houses in Pathum Thani and Nakhon Nayok, including the residence of a former chief of the Crime Suppression Division (CSD). .

Paisan Saikaew, 40, was apprehended in front of his house in Pathum Thani after police tracked him down through fingerprints found in houses that had been robbed.

Police found stolen items including laptop computers, gold jewellery and digital cameras.

The total value of items reported stolen, including from homes in luxury estates in Pathum Thani, was put at three million baht.

''On a good day I struck up to 10 houses,'' Mr Paisan told police during a press conference.

He said he drove around to target housing estates and flashed fake identity cards to security guards. He told them he came to visit relatives and was let in.

The suspect said he drove around to find houses with no one inside.

A police source said Mr Paisan once entered the house of former CSD chief Winai Thongsong. He managed to steal only a wristwatch. Pol Maj-Gen Winai is now deputy chief of the Special Branch Police.

Mr Paisan told police he sold most of the stolen goods to scrap metal shops. Some were given to his brother-in-law who sold them at Patawikorn market in Min Buri district. Other items were pawned.

He was wanted on four arrest warrants on charges including robbery and attempted murder, police said.
