It seems odd that Butoh, described by some as the "dance of darkness", would be a natural partner to photography, the art of capturing light.
Butoh, being an allusive art form, which not unlike a Rorschach test, provides a personal experience to each viewer, is represented in Israeli photographer Boaz Zippor's works in its purest form - not forcing one conclusion or another - but leaving space for the imagination and the utmost personal point of view.
Zippor's exhibition Butoh, which displays a series of figurative photos depicting the beauty and mystery that airs around this Japanese dance form, goes on display at the Patravadi Theatre Gallery.
Half of the sale proceeds will support Ban Unrak Home and School for displaced children in Sangkhla Buri.
Educated in Italy, Zippor founded several multimedia and design companies before concentrating full-time on photography. He now runs a photography studio and private gallery at Saphan Khwai.
'Butoh', a photography exhibition by Boaz Zippor will be on display at the Patravadi Theatre Gallery, from December 3 to January 3, 2009. The gallery is open from 10am to 6pm daily.
