RACE FOR CITY HALL IS HOTTING UP
After the final week of the Bangkok Post poll, Kriangsak Charoenwongsak retained his top spot, and even pulled further away from his closest rival, former Bangkok governor Apirak Kosayodhin.
Our final count has the number of poll participants at 2,425, divided into eligible voters in Bangkok (1,651), expats in Thailand (399), non-eligible Thai voters (196) and overseas participants (179).
Two changes in the poll results are worth noting. The first is that candidate Leena Jungjanja, who was in third place in the economy and standard of living categories in week two, has been overtaken by candidate Chuwit Kamolvisit.
Ms Leena's campaign took a tragic turn on Friday when her campaign manager Teerasak Sitanont, 32, drowned in the Sam Wa canal during a publicity stunt.
In week two, expats in Thailand voted 42.64% in favour of Mr Apirak, with Mr Kriangsak, who is commonly known as Dr Dan, breathing down his neck in second place with 42.13%. However, the final week of polling saw a significant shift in favour of Mr Kriangsak with 65.66% to Mr Apirak's 23.21%.
The Bangkok Post Governor Poll is a platform for the newspaper's readers to express their opinions on the 2008 race to be Bangkok governor. The poll divides the readers into four groups in order to assess how those of different backgrounds view the candidates. Bangkok Post readers are not representative of the Bangkok voting demographic.
