BANGKOK POST'S ONLINE TRAVEL CAMPAIGN BEGINS ITS SECOND PHASE THIS COMING THURSDAY!
Thailand is a relatively small country. Yet despite its size, the Kingdom is blessed with a variety of travel destinationsat isdless. Here comese question: If you have to make a list of the nine destinations in the Kingdom that people can visit times and times again, places that never disappoint you in any way, which should be included?
Of almost 1,000 sites nominated overe past two months though the Thailand's Top Destinations Vote's official web site www.bangkokpost/9destinations.com, 30 have been selected by our panel of experts.
The final decision is up to you other members of the public to vote for the candidates that deserve to be included one prestigious list. The voting will begin on Thursday, July 3, and continue untiled of January 2009, when the 9 candidates that receive the highest numbers of votes will be declared Thailands Top Destinations.
Register now at www.bangkokpost.9destinations.com and over the next nine months, and you'll get the chance to see your chosen sites fight it out for one of the coveted spots. We hope that the honoured candidates, to be announced in February 2009, will become the 9 places that every traveller, Thai or foreign, must visit before they can really say they have seen the very best of Thailand.
From February 2008 on, the next step is to rais the public awareness of the importance of the 9 chosen sites and encourage stakeholders at each site (from local communities and government agencies to hotels and other businesses) to work together in drawing up a conservation plan to make sure their destination is not ruined by tourism or other threats. The best of the proposed plans will be awarded with a fund that will make sure it is materialised.
