TV must advise tourists

In as much as it is just not Thai nationals who are compromised by the recent events, may I call the attention of broadcast media (news on TV) to at least flash the news in English?

A lot of foreigners and tourists are stranded, all blindsided by what's happening around them. We're caught in the middle of this political chaos, and much as we want to understand what's going on and stay away from the troubles, we can't even get advisories on what to do. We are glued to the TV to get some updates, but all the news is in Thai and we don't understand a word.

May I appeal to broadcast news media to please give us some peace of mind by flashing some information in English on your news telecasts.

PAD accountable

Re: ''A worthy end-goal'' (Postbag, Nov 28). The correspondent is mighty gallant in forgiving the PAD's closure of two airports, even though he is in the tourism business. He believes this short-term ''sacrifice'' is worth it if there will be a long-term im provement in accountability and good governance. That is a nice wish. However, that improvement can only be made if the PAD's leaders are held accountable for all the damage they have caused to our overseas visitors, who have no stake in our politics.

Initially, I admired the PAD's courage in making the insensitive and self-preserving ministers bereft of their offices by seizing Government House. People who suffered from this were a limited number of Thais, ''sacrificed'' for the good of the future.

But now two airports have been hijacked, affecting innocent ''bystanders'' who are mainly overseas visitors. The PAD's leaders are now in a position not much better than those Somali pirates in the open seas.

Yes, ''Mr Concerned Farang,'' I go along with your thinking, so long as these ''pirates'' are eventually incarcerated, so as to begin our new era of good accountability and governance.

Disperse the protesters / Until this government gets serious about cracking down on the PAD, this utter nonsense will continue. If they were in Burma, all the PAD core leaders would have been under house arrest and the protesters rounded up and jailed or put in concentration camps.

It should be so here _ the PAD knows only too well that Thailand does not want another bloodbath like the one in October '76. Consequently they will run their merry way with their insurrection/anarchy, which is a capital crime in any country except this one, apparently.

All the PAD's leaders, currently out on bail, need to be jailed immediately for violating bail conditions and their protesters dispersed by whatever means necessary.

The use of rubber bullets and water cannon is necessary, with the understanding that the next time real bullets will be employed!

This garbage has been around long enough. Thailand's economy is being ruined and investment here will be a long, long time coming back.

Left in the lurch

I have just met a British couple who were at Suvarnabhumi Airport when the PAD invaded; they were first-time visitors to Thailand and were naturally a little upset. What upset them, however, was not the invasion itself but the fact that the Thai staff on duty all ran away and left them to fend for themselves.

Can't stand the PAD / I can't stand this anymore. I hate them very, very much. Why can't the authorities clear them all away? The PAD is not for democracy, they are only for themselves and now have become a real terrorist group.

Not the PAD's fault / Those letter writers who are condemning the PAD seem to forget that it is not the PAD that is responsible for the damage to the Thai economy. The PAD had given plenty of warning. The stubborn clinging to power for selfish reasons by the PM is the root cause of this mayhem. Even if he was chosen ''democratically'' (i.e. voted in by buying votes), he cannot hold his position when such a large number of people refuse to accept him for reasons we all know.

I admire the PAD and wish them success for the benefit of all Thais.
