The State Enterprise Policy Office is reviewing a number of laws to help improve efficiency in overseeing state enterprises. Officials said that the office, a unit of the Finance Ministry established to set policy for the 58 state enterprises, in practice had only limited authority in setting policy or strategies.
The Office is also reviewing medium-term strategies to revive loss-ridden state enterprises, most notably the State Railway of Thailand, the National Housing Authority and the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority.
The three agencies combined have accumulated losses of 96 billion baht.
