Candidates in the Oct 5 Bangkok governor election from the two major national political parties, the Democrats and the People Power party (PPP), yesterday named members of their prospective administrative teams.

Former Bangkok governor Apirak Kosayodhin, No 5, came up with several prominent names in his 18-member team who will help him run the city if he is re-elected.

Meanwhile, his challenger from the PPP Prapas Chongsa-nguan, No 10, named four people as members of his team.

The members of Mr Apirak's team included Dr Chek Thanasiri, a public health expert, Dr Chanika Tuchinda, a medical expert; Dr Poonchai Chitanuntavitaya, a health security expert; Nualphan Lamsam, a businesswoman; Warakorn Samkoses, an education and development expert; Preecha Thaothong, a fine arts expert; Taenkhun Jit-issara, an actor; Manop Pongsathat, an architectural expert; Tortrakoon Yomnak and Supachai Tantikom, both of them engineering experts; Vinit Suraphongchai, a business and marketing expert; Somchai Pakapaswiwat, an economics expert; Vachara Tantriyanont, a financial expert, Krairit Bunyakiat, a marketing expert and Karndi Leophairote, a business expert.

Mr Apirak said the three other team members are young people's representatives. They are Sutthikorn Kingkaew, a PhD candidate at Cambridge University, Supatkitti Jetthaweekit, a third-year Thammasat University student and Panumart Suk-amporn, a disabled person and former actor.

Mr Apirak, nevertheless, has not yet named his four would-be deputies, saying he would do so after he is elected.

They would be selected from his former team members who helped him run the city administration.

Mr Prapas, former chief of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand, named Anusorn Tamajai, dean of Rangsit University's faculty of economics; Kittisak Sriprasert, senior executive vice-president for corporate strategy of CAT Telecom; Visut Samretwanich, a former Bangkok Council speaker, and Pradermchai Boonchuay-lua, a former city councillor representing Huai Khwang district as his team members.

Mr Prapas yesterday said Mr Apirak has an advantage over other candidates because the BMA has erected billboards at several spots in the city featuring the achievements of the city administration, which has been under Mr Apirak's leadership in the past four years.

The existence of these billboards could be in violation of the election law, said Mr Prapas. He urged the BMA to remove them.

On polls indicating Mr Apirak would win the city election, Mr Prapas said those results did not discourage him because the respondents did not actually represent Bangkok voters.
