The Woods Bagot Women's Sevens kicks off the weekend's action today with matches beginning at 12 noon.
The men's tournament begins tomorrow with non-stop rugby from 8.30 am to 5.30pm.
Carlton-Grammar are returning for their third Bangkok Sevens while fellow Kiwis Linton Army are playing their fifth Sevens and both are keen to take the Cup back to New Zealand.
They will be joined by the Aussie indigenous side from the Lloyd McDermott Rugby Development Foundation. Fans will remember Lloyd McDermott played in last year's Cup final against the Waisele Serevi's Pacific Island 7s going down 14-7 in a very tight and hard fought match.
Completing the Australian contingent will be newcomers Country King Browns, a select side from Queensland and NSW featuring players from City and Country grade clubs including dual Australian rugby great Andrew Walker.
However these Down Under teams will have to contend with Scotland's specialist Sevens combination Rugby Ecosse with representatives from Scotland's National Sevens and their development cadre. A semi-final slot is well on the cards for this side if they can cope with the Bangkok climate.
A further surprise package comes from Kazakhstan being represented by both men's and women's teams, members of which form the nucleus of Kazakhstan's national squads. They are expected to do well in the Plate event having recently competed in the Asian RFU RWC elimination series in Hong Kong.
Hosts Thailand will be well represented with teams from the Southerners, British Club, Police, Mahasarakham University, Chiang Mai Suas, first-timers, Prince of Songkhla University and Royal Bangkok Sports Club, the Thai Barbarians, Kasetsart, RBAC and Rangsit Universities and the Old Bangkok Bangers Colts side.
The Woods Bagot Women's Sevens will be no less competitive with the Hong Kong U20s being joined by Kazakhstan Saigoks and Vientiane Lions who are both playing their first Bangkok Sevens.
Local powerhouses Royal Thai Air Force and Bangkok IPE will be joined by Yala Army, composite side the Wild Orchids and Mahasarakham University in what might be the most competitive Women's Sevens we have seen.
Bangkok architectural firm Woods Bagot (Thailand) are sponsoring Yala Army and the Mahasarakham University sides in their trip to Bangkok.
Join in this rugby fest and support the players in some tough rounds of matches at the Police Stadium. Refreshments and food will be available at the Police Stadium. Free entry or donation towards Youth Rugby Development.
