Marking a 56-year-old tradition
through 56 prominent enterprises
he end of World War II in 1945 saw Thailand slowly emerging from being
a basically agricultural country into a vibrant economy, actively participating
in international trade. Since then, the Kingdom of Thailand has grown
at a tremendous pace, developing and harnessing its potential to the
fullest, while still keeping its treasured old-age traditions and culture
alive. It has been the privilege of the Bangkok Post — throughout
the years — to capture every memorable episode of Thailand’s
development in print.
Founded shortly after World War II by Major Alexander MacDonald and
Mr. Prasit Lulitanond, the Bangkok Post started as a simple four-page
broadsheet, with 25 staff and 200 subscribers. The first 500 copies
of the newspaper rolled off the press on 1 August 1946.
Today, after more than five decades of continuous publication, the
Bangkok Post has become a leader in the publishing industry, not only
in Thailand but all over Asia. Its remarkable history is backed by several
milestones which have helped transform it into the distinguished institution
that it is today. The Bangkok Post is now a newspaper of editorial strength
and corporate confidence — qualities it has earned over the years,
from the periods of economic uncertainties and political upheavals,
to the booming years of the Thai economy.
Backed by 56 years of publishing experience, the Bangkok Post stays
ahead of the competition and exercises complete freedom of expression
in a dynamic social environment. As Thailand’s leading English-language
newspaper, it has the highest circulation — enabling the newspaper
to reach a larger number of people and to be of greater service to the
Thai community.
On the occasion of the Bangkok Post’s 56th anniversary, and as
a token of our sincere appreciation for the trust and support extended
to us by numerous Thai and foreign business communities, we give you
“56 Prominent Enterprises” — a celebratory publication
that brings you some of the hundreds of industrial and commercial enterprises
that have trusted the Bangkok Post as their marketing vehicle.
