For over three years now, the SkyTrain has been carrying its passengers in safety, high above the busy streets of Bangkok and is now a much-loved feature of the city. For many city-dwellers, the SkyTrain offers an essential service and they find it hard to imagine life without it.

Looking back
The Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company Limited (BTSC) is BTS SkyTrain’s service provider. Registered as a company on 13 February 1992 and entered into a concession contract with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to provide a mass transit system on two elevated routes in Bangkok, BTSC was registered as a public company on 14 August 1996.

Today, after 10 years of establishment, BTSC has grown in leaps and bounds, with most of its business activities focused on improving the quality of life of many people.

Moving ahead
The 5th of December 1999, was the first day of commercial operation for the BTS Mass Transit Railway. By far, the SkyTrain is the safest means of transportation in Bangkok. Used by over 300,000 commuters daily the SkyTrain has revolutionised transport in Bangkok. From the beginning, BTS has provided almost 100% punctuality, with its trains having travelled a total distance of 9.6 million kilometres and serving more than 210 million passengers. With 23 stations at strategic locations in central Bangkok and trains leaving every three to five minutes, getting around the city has never been so easy.

The system has an excellent safety record and its management and staff are dedicated to delivering a very reliable, safe and secure service. The BTSC has now further upgraded its services and facilities to better serve its passengers. New escalators, SkyBridge connections to many shopping centres, plasma-screen TV and Park & Ride make access to the SkyTrain much easier.

Riding high with the
stamp of quality
BTSC is committed to providing service of international standard. People are the key to achieving this goal, and BTSC with its highly skilled and qualified workforce are trained in customer service as well as operational and safety skills.

In 2002, the company celebrated its receipt of the prestigious ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System certification from the Management System Certification Institute (Thailand).

The next stop
The Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company Limited intends to extend the range of the SkyTrain even further. Plans are underway for the extension of the Silom line, from Taksin Bridge to Phetchakasem Road and for the extension of the Sukhumvit line, from On Nut to Samrong and Sukhumvit northbound from Mo Chit to the Ratchayothin intersection. This extended coverage should ensure that the SkyTrain remains the favoured form of transport in Bangkok for many years to come.
