Founded more than 30 years ago by the Ratanarak family, Siam City Cement Public Company Limited (SCCC) is now Thailand’s second-largest cement manufacturer and a leading cement exporter. The company and its subsidiaries employ some 5,300 people.

SCCC has been listed on The Stock Exchange of Thailand since 1977. In 1988, Holcim of Switzerland, one of the world’s leading suppliers of cement, became a shareholder.

Manufacturing operations are based near Saraburi and consist of six separate production lines, with a combined total clinker capacity of
12.3 million tonnes, giving a potential annual cement output of 17 million tonnes.

Market
Siam City Cement products are marketed domestically under the
well-known INSEE (or “Eagle”) brand. In addition to the new INSEE Tong, the first premium masonry cement in Thailand, the INSEE family includes INSEE Dang, INSEE Petch and INSEE Dum, and specialist application cement, INSEE Keaw, INSEE Fah and INSEE Samutr.

Siam City Cement’s share of the Thai market is now 28%. The company also exports to more than 20 countries worldwide, including the United States, where construction standards are at their highest. In 2002, total domestic and export sales amounted to 11.4 million tonnes, an increase of more than one million tonnes over 2001.

INSEE Tong
INSEE Tong is the first masonry cement in Thailand to meet the high standards of the American Society for Testing and Materials’ ASTM C 91 Type N certification. The launch of INSEE Tong represented the culmination of an exhaustive process of development and testing. It was formulated specifically to meet the requirements of the Thai climate and to reflect the mineral composition of local raw materials. Using fewer chemicals and incorporating environmental technology in the production of INSEE Tong, masons are ensured that this premium product is friendly both to the skin and the environment.

Strength for strength
SCCC was the first cement producer in Thailand to offer its customers the benefits of e-commerce. Introduced in 2000, its ‘webSALES’ online sales system now accounts for over 70% of total domestic sales.

SCCC is committed to responsible environmental practices and has published a detailed overview of its environmental initiatives and performance. In 2002, the company’s Alternative Fuels & Raw Materials programme used over 580,000 tonnes of such materials, thus helping conserve fossil fuels and other natural resources while also reducing the national waste disposal burden.

The company remains wholly committed to becoming the preferred cement supplier in Thailand, increasing customer service standards, ensuring a robust operational performance, developing the staff, and playing a broader role in community development.
