Setting auto industry standards
As a Ford-Mazda joint venture, AutoAlliance (Thailand) Co.,
Ltd. (AAT) helps set the standards of automobile manufacturing
in Thailand. The company is owned by two of the world’s biggest
auto companies, Ford and Mazda.
Back in 1995, Ford and Mazda were attracted to Thailand’s
potential as an automotive hub, and their decision to
jointly establish AAT made the country an important
manufacturing base for both their local and foreign
markets.
State-of-the-art facility
Adhering to international standards of quality, the
Rayong-based, BOI-promoted AAT facility, which cost
US$ 500 million to build, represents Thailand’s very
first integrated vehicle manufacturing plant. The
facility is located on a 529-rai plot of land in the
Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate.
AAT processes and products
AAT, with its highly trained personnel and the world’s
best available technologies, is equipped to perform
a wide range of processes – from stamping, bodywork
and
painting to engine assembly, trim and final assembly,
quality inspection, packaging and delivery.
The AAT facility currently produces three major models
– Ford Ranger Open Cab, Mazda Fighter Open Cab and Ford
Everest.
Quality is a serious journey
Quality is a lifetime commitment for this company. As
such, it came as no surprise when it elected to implement
the ISO/TS 16949:2002 quality management system. Used
in the automotive industry, especially for cars and
component parts, the quality system combines international
standards with internal processes and customer requirements.
The system covers a wide range of operations, including:
the development of customised products; planning; purchasing
raw materials/car components; manufacturing preparation;
manufacturing; storage; delivery; and problem solving.
Thanks to the system, AAT is now better able than ever
to achieve customer satisfaction and continuous quality
management improvement.
Numerous prestigious awards
AAT’s effective quality control and close monitoring
of every aspect of the manufacturing process has helped
earn the company a long list of awards and certificates
over the years. These include:
• ISO 9002 certificate (September 1999)
• ISO 14001 certificate (February 2000)
• QS 9000 certificate (September 2000)
• 1st prize award in plant safety in Thailand (September
2000)
• ISO/TS 16949:2002 certificate (February 2004)
AAT was the first automobile assembly plant in the
ASEAN region to achieve the globally recognised ISO/TS
16949:2000 accreditation. A source of pride for all
AAT staff, the award is motivating the company to strive
ever harder to maintain continuous quality improvement.
Playing a social tune
A corporate citizen of Rayong for more than eight years,
AAT makes it a priority to enhance the quality of
people’s lives in the surrounding communities. Over
and above its high business profile, the company endeavours
to be an insightful neighbour. AAT team members tirelessly
devote themselves to numerous social activities, including
contributions to Buddhist ceremonies, participating
in social activities with local residents, blood donations,
and flood victim support campaigns.
Into the future
For the future, AAT is committed to growing as a globally
competitive automotive company that provides customers
with the best value products and service satisfaction.
