H.C. Starck was initially founded in 1920, when Hermann
C. Starck established a company for trading ores and metals
in Berlin, Germany.
In just a few decades, H.C. Starck evolved into one of the
world’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of a broad range
of refractory metal powders, such as tungsten, molybdenum,
tantalum, niobium, rhenium and their compounds, for the
hard metal, chemical
and many other industries.
An affiliate of the Bayer Group, H.C. Starck is now also
a leading supplier of metal powders and fabricated products,
specialty chemicals, electro-conductive polymers, colloidal
silica and other products for the high-tech requirements
of today’s electronics and
optical industries.
Well-established in Thailand
Enjoying Board of Investment privileges,
H.C. Starck (Thailand) Co., Ltd. was founded
in 1996 to manufacture high-quality tantalum metal powder
and tantalum and niobium compounds for the international
electronics and optical industries.
Situated
at Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate in Rayong, H.C. Starck
(Thailand)’s state-of-the-art manufacturing
facilities include chemical and metallurgical plants.
The chemical plant manufactures three major products:
potassium fluorotantalate, tantalum pentoxide and niobium
pentoxide,while the metallurgical plant produces more
than 10 grades of high-quality tantalum metal powders,
using highly complex technology.
H.C. Starck (Thailand) Co., Ltd. received the ISO 9001:1994
certificate for its quality management system from RWTUV
(Thailand) Ltd. in December 1999. Its quality management
system was upgraded and re-certified to
ISO 9001:2000 in December 2002.
A healthy and safe workplace
H.C. Starck sets global standards with its operations
and management, which adhere to the guidelines of
the “Responsible Care Programme,” an international
initiative
supported by the German Association of the Chemical
Industry. The company has made substantial investments
in terms of both money and human resources to optimise
the efficiency of its production processes and utilities,regarding safety,
health and environmental protection.
In addition to such safety guidelines,
H.C. Starck (Thailand) has implemented the Occupational
Health and Safety Management System (OHSAS 18001) into
its operations as a key measure to prevent risks associated
with its production as well as to create a healthy and
safe working environment for the employees.
With stringent environmental, health and safety measures
in place, the H.C. Starck site at
Map Ta Phut was recently awarded the
ISO 14001:1996 environmental management system certificate
and OHSAS 18001:1999.
Its achievement of these prestigious awards
is testimony to the company’s high environmental, health
and safety standards, which can be traced back to its
inception.
With ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, H.C. Starck
(Thailand) Co., Ltd. is the first
H.C. Starck company worldwide to achieve all three internationally
recognised standards.
An accredited laboratory
H.C. Starck (Thailand)’s customers need more than just
a promise to meet specifications. Completely customised
analyses in the form of accurate and precise test data
also have to be provided. H.C. Starck (Thailand) has
worked to attain an accredited laboratory in accordance
with the ISO/IEC 17025 standard since
August 2001.
H.C. Starck (Thailand)’s laboratory achieved the ISO/IEC
17025 accreditation from the Thai Industrial Standards
Institute, known as TISI,
in August 2003.
