Dr. Watter Bludssus
Managing Director

A true global player

H.C. Starck was initially founded in 1920, when Hermann C. Starck established a company for trading ores and metals in Berlin, Germany. In just a few decades, H.C. Starck evolved into one of the world’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of a broad range of refractory metal powders, such as tungsten, molybdenum, tantalum, niobium, rhenium and their compounds, for the hard metal, chemical and many other industries.

An affiliate of the Bayer Group, H.C. Starck is now also a leading supplier of metal powders and fabricated products, specialty chemicals, electro-conductive polymers, colloidal silica and other products for the high-tech requirements of today’s electronics and optical industries.

Well-established in Thailand
Enjoying Board of Investment privileges, H.C. Starck (Thailand) Co., Ltd. was founded in 1996 to manufacture high-quality tantalum metal powder and tantalum and niobium compounds for the international electronics and optical industries.

Situated at Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate in Rayong, H.C. Starck (Thailand)’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities include chemical and metallurgical plants. The chemical plant manufactures three major products: potassium fluorotantalate, tantalum pentoxide and niobium pentoxide, while the metallurgical plant produces more than 10 grades of high-quality tantalum metal powders, using highly complex technology.

H.C. Starck (Thailand) Co., Ltd. received the ISO 9001:1994 certificate for its quality management system from RWTUV (Thailand) Ltd. in December 1999. Its quality management system was upgraded and re-certified to ISO 9001:2000 in December 2002.

A healthy and safe workplace
H.C. Starck sets global standards with its operations and management, which adhere to the guidelines of the “Responsible Care Programme,” an international initiative supported by the German Association of the Chemical Industry. The company has made substantial investments in terms of both money and human resources to optimise the efficiency of its production processes and utilities, regarding safety, health and environmental protection.

In addition to such safety guidelines, H.C. Starck (Thailand) has implemented the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSAS 18001) into its operations as a key measure to prevent risks associated with its production as well as to create a healthy and safe working environment for the employees.

With stringent environmental, health and safety measures in place, the H.C. Starck site at Map Ta Phut was recently awarded the ISO 14001:1996 environmental management system certificate and OHSAS 18001:1999. Its achievement of these prestigious awards is testimony to the company’s high environmental, health and safety standards, which can be traced back to its inception. With ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, H.C. Starck (Thailand) Co., Ltd. is the first H.C. Starck company worldwide to achieve all three internationally recognised standards.

An accredited laboratory
H.C. Starck (Thailand)’s customers need more than just a promise to meet specifications. Completely customised analyses in the form of accurate and precise test data also have to be provided. H.C. Starck (Thailand) has worked to attain an accredited laboratory in accordance with the ISO/IEC 17025 standard since August 2001.

H.C. Starck (Thailand)’s laboratory achieved the ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation from the Thai Industrial Standards Institute, known as TISI, in August 2003.
