Publishing
pioneer
Although only established as recently as 1992, the history
of Nanmeebooks actually dates back to the late ’40s when
a young man by the name of Tan Saeng Kim started a small
Chinese bookstore at the corner of Paksai Street in Chinatown.
The business grew and prospered and before long the quaint
little bookstore became Nanmee Co., Ltd., the beginning
of the stationery giant known by all today.
With the aim of keeping Chinese culture alive in
Thailand, Mr. Tongkaseam, or Tan Saeng Kim, started
a publishing department within the company to translate
Chinese language books into Thai. Soon, the company
started translating books from other languages and
in 1992, the department became a fully-fledged publishing
house in its own right, called Nanmeebooks Co., Ltd.
Vast selection of books
Nanmeebooks publishes exceptional volumes for all
ages. The company’s never-ending collection of fascinating
titles can be grouped into three different categories:
• Fiction
Nanmeebooks believes that a love for books comes from
enjoying what one reads. The company, therefore, carefully
selects renowned publications to be translated for
the public’s reading pleasure.
• Education and reference
Learning does not have to be complex and tedious;
it can be rewarding and enjoyable. Nanmeebooks’ collection
of educational and reference books is certainly far
from being dull. With big, bold, bright pictures,
easy-to-understand language and stylish up-to-the-minute
designs, boring textbooks are a thing of the past.
• Non-fiction
Instructive yet entertaining, Nanmeebooks’ collection
of fascinating non-fiction books provides readers
with knowledge, presented in a light-hearted style.
House of knowledge
A six-storey contemporary building, located in one
of Bangkok’s most important business locales – Sukhumvit
Soi 31, Nanmeebooks House is the capital’s innovative
centre of knowledge and learning. Apart from being
the corporate office of the Nanmeebooks Group and
AA Footwear, the building also houses a one-of-a-kind
bookstore, a research facility with an extensive
data bank and an auditorium, all of which are open
to the general public.
Nanmeebooks Library — a bookstore with a difference
Offering a book of your choice in a friendly atmosphere,
Nanmeebooks Library is a place where you can sit
and read before you buy. There is a wide selection
of books from both home and aboard, as well as a
unique “learning corner”.
Graced with a royal presence
Despite Nanmeebooks’ long list of achievements, the
proudest moment for the company came when H.R.H.
Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously permitted
it to publish all her novels and translated masterpieces.
In the company’s quest to educate youth, Nanmeebooks
published its first young adult magazine, called “Lemprode”,
in 2001. Aimed at encouraging teenagers to read, the
front cover of the magazine features H.R.H. Princess
Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s own handwriting.
Activities and social contributions
An established publishing house with more than a decade
of experience, Nanmeebooks recognises the importance
of reading and its value in building a cultured
and fulfilled society. As such, the company has
established numerous promotional reading projects
to complement its successful science campaigns so
that pupils, teachers and parents can appreciate
the benefits of reading.
