President

Creating value
Thai Polyphosphate & Chemicals Co., Ltd. (TPC) is a subsidiary of the Aditya Birla Group of India. It is currently the leading manufacturer of Sodium Phosphate in the world.

Commissioned in 1984 to produce POLYPHOS (Sodium Tripolyphosphate), TPC has over the years, enhanced capacity through debottlenecking by more than 100%, and earned a reputation as being one of the most efficient and reliable suppliers of high-quality Sodium Phosphates.

TPC leads the way
TPC was the first manufacturer of Sodium Phosphates in the Asia-Pacific to be ISO 9000 – certified for its quality management systems, and the first Sodium Phosphate manufacturer in the world to be accredited with the ISO 14001. Constant upgrading of technology has also enabled the company to receive the prestigious Prime Minister’s Industry Award
for outstanding performance in environmental conservation. Additional achievements include: An award for Consistent TPM Excellence For Commitment (1st category); TIS 18001; SAP software implementation; and The Thailand Quality Prize 2004 and Best Supplier Awards from multinationals viz, Unilever and Colgate- Palmolive for last 10 years.

TPC’s enviable record of manufacturing excellence and quality management remains unmatched in the Southeast Asian region. Another milestone achievement for the company is its receipt of the prestigious
Total Productivity Management (TPM) Award – First Category, from Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance. This made TPC the first Sodium Phosphate manufacturer in the world to receive the highly coveted TPM Excellence Award.
As a result of the company’s TPM implementation, the following benefits were realised:
• Increased productivity at lower costs
• Increased operating plant efficiency
• Reduced equipment down-time
• A zero accident rate
• Reduced customer complaints
• Substantial annual savings
• High employee morale

Product profile
TPC phosphates are mainly used as meat and seafood preservatives, leavening in bakery products, emulsifiers and stabilisers in dairy products and builders in detergents. TPC phosphates are also used in the manufacture of animal feeds, toothpaste, textile dyes, starches and ceramic tiles. They are also used in water and metal treatment, and as stabilisers in chemical processes.

Currently, the company exports 20% of its products to such countries as Japan, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. Indonesia is another major export destination, along with other countries in the Southeast Asian region.

TPC looks to the future
TPC, a company always in pursuit of excellence, refuses to rest on its laurels.
The implementation of the TPM has created
an even more enhanced company culture.
It is now ready to meet the bigger challenges of the future. Increasing production capacity and making additional investments are part of TPC’s future plans. It is also planning to manufacture more value-added products.
