Stress management : It's common for people today to be exposed to stress, be it at work or socially. In many cases, it affects their performance or their emotional well-balance, says Nicolas S Ihle, TRIA's psychological counsellor and hypnotherapist.

People who cannot cope with stress will feel their lives are falling off track. Some suffer from the burn-out syndrome or even depression.

Stress management provides normal counselling and hypnotherapy in some cases.

Hypnotherapy is specially for people who come with specific issues such as anger, fear, problems related to self-esteem and habit changes, like eating or drinking.

"A few people came to me when their anger had been accumulated for years, and they didn't deal with it. Sometimes it's been so long that they forget what was the root cause of their anger. Once they are hypnotised, they can remember, go through it again and talk about it, thereby easing their stress" says Ihle.

Recommendations for stress management

- Learn detachment, by relaxing instantly during the day. Even when you have a very tight schedule, just find two to three minutes to relax and find your inner balance. Do it a few times a day, you'll perform your breathing well.

- Some meditation, yoga or spa therapy also helps relaxation.

- See a counsellor if you feel your health is being affected, or you want to work on the root cause of your stress. Symptoms may be insomnia, you drink and smoke more, become extremely nervous, or are unable to interact with family members.

- Therapy will be more effective if the clients feel the urge to come and seek counselling themselves. It won't work if they are forced by families or relatives.
