FILM AWARD
Here's a good opportunity for young people in the film industry: The British Council is searching for a talented young Thai entrepreneur to represent Thailand at the International Young Screen Entrepreneur (IYSE) awards in the United Kingdom.
If you're selected by the jury, you'll become a representative of Thailand and will have the chance to go to London for an all-expenses-paid 12-day visit and attend the Times BFI London Film Festival in October. In the UK, the Thai representative will present a paper outlining his/her vision of how to develop the film or television industry. Nine other representatives from nine other countries will do the same, and the winner will get a hefty 7,500 prize money (around 470,000 baht).
The IYSE will take all 10 finalists to meet leaders and innovators in the UK film and TV business in London, Bristol and Wales during their 12-day visit in October.
So, basically, you should apply if you're between 25 to 35 and working in the movie or television industry (mainstream or independent). The term "Screen" in IYSE includes feature films, documentaries, shorts, television production, and animation, and the project welcomes personnel from every department of the industry including directors, producers, distributors, post-production, marketing, journalists, Internet websites, even people who work for cinemas, film festivals, event programming and management.
The application deadline is June 15. If you're shortlisted, you'll have to give a presentation in English in front of a selection panel. The topic can be anything that manifests your entrepreneurial skills and the ability in the promotion of the screen industry in Thailand, particularly in a commercial context. The presentation might include a background on the national film and/or television industry; a description of your own work; how your own work sits in the context of the national industry/situation; your vision of improvements to the domestic film and/or television industry; and how the IYSE prize would benefit you and your work. It should also demonstrate how you would marry the commercial and creative aspects or your work.
You can download the application form from http://www.britishcouncil.or.th. For more information, please contact Laila Bunnag at 02-657-5602 or email: laila.bunnag@britishcouncil.or.th. She will be happy to answer all your queries.
