Review of Operations

The economy showed signs of recovery in the second half of 1999 and we closed the year with total revenue being well ahead of the budget. The Bangkok Post, the main flagship, saw significant technical improvements, with its new editorial pagination system, as did Classified and r.o.p. Ad Booking. Post Books strove forward into the future by accepting on-line payment for the first time in July. Allied Printers, too, improved on its technological capabilities and produced a "One-Stop Service" concept, as it strove to attract a more international client base.

Educational Services continued to provide readers with, amongst other columns, its hugely popular 'Translate It' section, and The Display Advertisement Section, saw a year full to the brim with promotional projects, such as Holiday Time. The Bangkok Post Student Weekly, which turned 30 years old in 1999, held a fun-filled celebration in the Landmark Hotel, which attracted hundreds of teachers from schools throughout the country. The Bangkok Posts website, also attracted a lot of attention in 1999, as it grew to include additional sections. Particularly promising are its new Electronic Supplements and on-line "Prominent Businesses" directory.
