Photos and first-hand accounts of Thailand's worst flood in history

Recently, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presided over the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition Water + Empathy 2011, at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre. Indeed, the opening was a memorable occasion, with images of Thailand's historical deluge on display and leading government figures, as well as patrons from the local art scene in attendance.

The highlight of the exhibition includes five aerial photographs taken by the princess from a helicopter of heritage sites in Ayutthya on October 14. These photos constitute an important historical record of Wat Chaiwatthanaram, Wat Phra Si Sanphet, Wat Rat Burana and Wat Phra Ram, which were partially submerged by floodwater. The princess also took a bird's-eye view snapshot of Pridimontri Bridge, recording the evacuation of cars and vans, as well as people fleeing rising floodwaters.
