Walking tour of ancient temples

Let's go down the memory lane with Siamtas, a group of local historians, which is holding a walking tour to ancient temples and a mosque in Thon Buri on Sun, Jan 29 as its first trip of the year.

The tour starting at 8am will be led by Chullapassorn Panomwan na Ayudhya. On route are Wat Pakineenat, Wat Paorohit and Wat Mai Thepnimit _ all built in the Ayutthaya era but less known to modern tourists. But for art historians, the temples possess precious mural paintings worth exploring. The tour is part of an effort to record damage caused to them by last year's floods. The afternoon programme includes a visit to the riverine Bang-Or Mosque, which was also hit by the massive deluge.

Registration fee is 150 baht, up from the regular 100 baht with proceeds going to the renovation of temples and the mosque. No prior registration is required, just turn up at 8am at the meeting point _ under Krung Thon Buri Bridge (Thon Buri side).
