THE GRAPEVINE: SHOWS
The 8th year of the much-anticipated annual French-Thai cultural fest, La Fete will feature 25 events over nine weeks in six Thai cities. Kicking things off on Feb 2 will be the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra (BSO) with French conductor Jean-Paul Penin and choir master Henri Pompidor. In the centennial celebration of Alliance Francaise de Bangkok, the opening concert (Feb 2, 8pm. The National Theatre, Rachini Road. Tickets B500, B700, B900, B1,200; B100 for students) will pay tribute to the French repertoire of the early 20th century as the BSO and inter-varsity choir perform compositions by Debussy, Offenbach, Ravel and Faure.
Other cultural and artistic events in the festival will cover modern circus, classical music, rock, DJ, contemporary dance, hip-hop, visual theatre, photography, cinema and fashion. Catch upcoming Thai artist Pakitsilp Varamissara's "Retrospective" at the National Gallery (Feb 3-29, see Art, p22), modern circus Ieto that unconventionally blends acrobatics and poetry (Feb 9-10), live animation-movie Stereoptik (Feb 22-23), Fete de la Music (Feb 25) and more.
