Art that links two cultures

Galerie N presents "Dwelling in a Space", a solo exhibition by Korean artist Gi-ok Jeon who will be showcasing several recently executed paintings, a site-specific installation and a series of experimental woodcut prints.

Gi-ok has been developing her themes around identity, alienation, women and relationships as she seeks her own identity in a relationship in a new place. As a foreign artist, woman and mother living in Thailand, she has depicted her experience of separation from her home country and adaptation to a new culture by fusing traditional Thai patoong fabrics with traditional Korean brush painting.

Interestingly, as a way of creating a bridge between the two cultures she has juxtaposed images of her mixed-race daughter with various examples of patterned patoong in a seemingly non-gravitated space.
