With credits almost as full of future promise as People on Sunday, the 1980 film Battle Beyond the Stars - John Sayles (screenwriter), James Cameron (art director), Gale Anne Hurd (production manager), James Horner (composer) _ was producer Roger Corman's attempt to produce a Star Wars spectacle on an indie budget. Rereleased in a solid Blu-ray transfer 30 years later, it's still a scrappy, entertaining picture, with a plotline from The Seven Samurai, a cast of rising (Richard Thomas, Sybil Danning) and veteran (John Saxon, Robert Vaughn, George Peppard) stars, and planets spun out of tinfoil, plywood and milk crates.
