The love triangle of 'La Bayadere'

Having being revived and restaged numerous times, La Bayadere has a long performance history. But through the vision of Russia's Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, new life was breathed into the classical ballet.

As the fourth instalment of Bangkok's 12th International Festival of Dance & Music, La Bayadere was graciously presided over by Her Majesty the Queen, at the Thailand Cultural Centre.

Originally staged in 1887 by Marius Petipa, the four-act ballet takes place in the exotic landscape of Hindu, India. Temple dancer Nikiya (Natalie Ershova) is undyingly devoted to the warrior, Solor (Igor Zelensky.) As with any great love story, their loyalty is made complicated by Solor's betrothal to another woman and the temple high priest's unrequited affection for Nikiya.
