Salsa kings stomp Bangkok

Delivering an absolutely mind-blowing experience for its first visit to Thailand, one of the most celebrated Cuban dance troupes, the Kings of Salsa, successfully staged a stunning performance during its first-ever appearance at Bangkok's International Festival of Dance and Music last week. The professional dancing along with the magical Afro-Caribbean sound certainly quickened the audience's pulse to follow the 8-step beat, from the opening chord to the end.

Director, choreographer and singer Roclan Gonzalez Chavez and performers offered Bangkok a journey to Havana beach with their thoughtful and entertaining numbers.

Opening up in top gear, the nine-piece band Cub Ashire rocked the stage with its powerful sound as soon as the curtain lifted, beautifully meshing with the eight dancers wearing costumes of white, blue and red, making a statement that Cuba was in the house. With the use of warm yellow lighting, the stage quickly oozed the ambience of a sunny beach town.
