Waiting in the wings

Besides raising the profile of the city, the Bangkok's International Festival of Dance & Music gives local talent a chance to shine on stage

The Bangkok's International Festival of Dance & Music has, in its 12 years, demonstrated that bringing the best of opera, ballet and music from around the world to Bangkok will not only raise the profile of the city but also encourage local talent.

Ample proof of that is the local talent that was on the Bangkok stage this year. Among them are Pornpim Karchai, Prapaporn Sansuksom, Fahsai Thaweesak and Sirirat Detchawong. They were the homegrown talent that shone on stage as a part of three foreign productions - the Novosibirsk State Ballet Theatre's La Bayadare, Zurich Ballet's Swan Lake and Northern Ballet Theatre's A Christmas Carol.
