More royalist than thou
The new stage adaptation of Kukrit Pramoj's Si Phaen Din is in the same vein as its TV predecessors

How would you like to sit comfortably in a state-of-the-art theatre and be bathed in love for three and a half hours? You get a 15-minute intermission, after which the love bath continues, with an attack on democracy being simultaneously massaged into your system. But you can rest assured that the experience will be gentle as the masseur wears velvet gloves.
Si Phaen Din: The Musical continues at the Muang Thai Rachadalai Theatre until February 12 . There are performances daily (except Monday and Tuesday) at 7:30pm, plus 1:30pm matinees on weekends. Scenario's Si Phaen Din: The Musical is the first time the much-loved historical novel of the same title by MR Kukrit Pramoj has been given a professional treatment on stage. First serialised in Siam Rath newspaper in 1951, the story of Ploy (aka Mae Ploy) was published in novel form in 1953 and no less than five adaptations of it have been aired on local TV since 1961.
