Pipaat Sepha, a classical Thai percussion music concert, will be held this Saturday at 5pm at the National Theatre as a homage to King Pinklao, a royal patron of Thai classical music.
Six ensembles representing the Fine Arts Department, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the National Police Office and the Army, Navy and Airforce, will take turns on the stage, entertaining their enthusiastic fans.
Top vocalists Niphon Duriyaphan, of the Bang Lampu conservatoire, and Somchai Tabporn, of the Fine Arts Department, will do the sepha chanting on Khun Paen Fun Man (Jealous Khun Paen Tears Down the Curtain), an episode from Khun Chang-Khun Paen folk tale. The highlight of the programme, as tradition goes, is the performance of Cherd Chin, a vibrant piece that allows musicians to show off their skills and talents.
