Shows to ring in Chinese New Year

Lovers of Chinese acrobatic and dance shows will have a chance to witness superb performances right in front of their eyes as two acrobatic groups and a dance troupe from China will be flown in to showcase many spectacular shows at three of central Bangkok's shopping venues during the Chinese New Year.

Scheduled daily at 6pm onwards, from tomorrow until Jan 23 at the Parc Paragon of Siam Paragon, "Siam Paragon Golden Glory" will see the award-winning 85-metre-tall "Glowing Dragon" show which features LED lights in seven colours performed by a famous troupe from Henan.

They will also perform the "Auspicious Lanterns Show", the "Double Pole Climbing Show" in which acrobats literally fly between poles, the "Rings of Century Show" featuring an award-winning hula hoop performer using 100 hoops at a time, the "Stairway to Heaven Show" presenting a seven-metre pyramid of chairs, the amazing "Great Wheel of Fortune Show" featuring spinning wheels at the height of a four-storey building, and a traditional drum show to mark the Chinese New Year.

At the Discovery Plaza of Siam Center & Siam Discovery, the Shanxi Chang Jue, one of the most famous Chinese acrobatic troupes, will perform at 7:15pm and 8:15pm from Saturday to Jan 23. Under the "Glowing Night" theme, the programme line-up includes plate spinning, powerful duo fighters, lovers' skating and an auspicious night dragon.

At the Central Court, 1st floor of CentralWorld, "CentralWorld The Great Chinese New Year 2012" will feature the renowned "Shanxi Show" for the first time in Thailand on Saturday at 4 and 7pm.

The highlights of the programme include the "Terracotta Warrior Dance", a banhu fiddle performance, the Sanchakou (Divergence) Chinese opera, a Chinese big drum show believed to bring fame and good luck, and a lion dance by famous stars.

Admission to all shows is free of charge.

Spectacular shows by Chinese acrobats and dancers will be staged at Parc Paragon tomorrow until Jan 23, at Discovery Plaza on Sat until Jan 23 and at CentralWorld on Saturday.
