CONCERT REVIEW
The 4G Quartet gave a performance that was often fine and fun of Anton Dvorak's "American" String Quartet, and Mom Luang Usni Pramoj's own latest work for the genre.
There was no question from the group's performance that they see nothing American in Dvorak's String Quartet Opus 96 in F major. They did their best to highlight the plaintiveness, and rhythmic wealth characteristic of composers from the Central European countries formerly known as Bohemia.
Like the "New World" Symphony, this quartet "reflects less of native American music than the composer's longing for his distant Bohemia", writes ML Usni, an elder of the 4G Quartet, privy councillor and national artist. Both works were written when Dvorak was on a visit to America.
