Mitsubishi's product cannibalisation

- But doesn't Mitsubishi already have the Pajero Sport?

This new SUV you see here from Mitsubishi is the third-generation Outlander which still has seven seats to match the Pajero Sport in concept.

Like Pajero Sport, Outlander is a seven-seater.

But the two are different under the skin. While the Pajero Sport is built on the chassis-on-frame body of the Triton pickup, the Outlander is based on a car-like monocoque platform.

If this is product cannibalisation, then the introduction by Chevrolet of the Trailblazer, competing with the Captiva certainly is that too.

When, if ever, will Thai authorities correct their brainless error and end the special excise tax for pickup-based SUVs?

Why, for heaven's sake, is a 3 litre diesel Fortuner taxed less then a 2.0 litre diesel Captiva? The answer is plain and simple: the decision to have a special excise tax for pickup-based SUVs is based on absolutely nothing - and it was probably taken under the influence of certain substances.

Unfortunately, Thai have a reputation of denying their own blunders, so this situation could well last a long, long time.
