'Brunch' tested Nissan's entry to the zero-emissions field and we were impressed, but unfortunately it'll be a long time before the new model blows in locally at a reasonable price
The Nissan Leaf would have been a great New Year's gift for Thais. Unfortunately, it isn't available here yet and when it is it looks to be very pricey. So why is this electric car, driven by yours truly here in Thailand for the first time, being featured on these pages? It's because Nissan wants to underline the importance of the Leaf, as it is the world's first zero-emission vehicle to go on sale to the mass market.
Also, the Japanese car giant says, Thailand is among several Asian countries chosen to test-run the Leaf before sales of electric vehicles (EVs) begin, which is widely expected to happen next year.
Nissan isn't the only car maker carrying out trial runs for EVs in Thailand. Mitsubishi is also doing so with its i-MiEV, although this city car is produced in more limited numbers than the Leaf.
