Both the BMW Z4 and Merc SLK try to appeal differently, which means that neither of them are perfect yet

When we sized up the BMW Z4 and Mercedes-Benz SLK some three years back, the latter won with its F1-aping nose, more tractable performance and a better balance between comfort and sporty driving styles.
Despite its manta ray-like eyes and long, low-slung appearance, the Z4 suffered from a breathless motor and lack of cruising refinement _ something hair-dressers wanted for a relaxing drive.
That was quite an achievement for Mercedes-Benz because that SLK was the previous generation model.
