A grand illusion

BMW's Gran Coupe is pretty a good car in its own right, but its high price makes it too tempting to look at alternatives from other brands

- +

Mention 6-series and most BMW fans will think of the grand-touring coupe whose history dates back to the 70s.

And the good thing about the elegant two-door Bimmer today is its rather unrivalled position in entry-level form. The 640i asks for 8.599 million baht, while alternatives like the Jaguar XK, Maserati GranTourismo and Porsche 911 cost more than 10 million baht.

And for an extra 900,000 baht, sun-bathers can opt for the 9.499 million baht Convertible version of the 640i, although we reckon that most punters with so much money to spare will still settle for the classier Coupe body.
