30/06/2009 : The global recession and untimely turmoil on the home turf of the Nagoya of Siam shaved off 83,340 units of new vehicle sales during the first five months of 2009 when compared to last year. Both factors weighed heavily as Thailand's large automobile industry appeared poised to shrink back to 400,000 units by year's end _ a market size on par to the level sustained in 2002. Analysts had predicted flat growth rate or a nominal 5% drop early on. However, total vehicle sales from January to May stood at 188,026 vehicles, down a whopping 30.7% when compared to last year during the same period.
