INTERVIEW KRISDA UTAMOTE
Compact with glowing credentials
What future for that icon of the '70s now that BMW is behind the wheel?

Krisda Utamote wasted no time in informing Motoring that the name of the first 10-foot-long car in the world to seat four adults comfortably should be spelt with capital letters _ as in "MINI" _ so that this much-loved brand gets to share the same uppercase honours as its current owner, BMW.
So we decided to humour him _ at least for the duration of this interview.
Although the BMW MINI, commonly touted as "the New MINI", is some 58cm longer and 400kg heavier than the classic Austin Mini (1969-2000), we can probably all agree that this compact car is still a British icon in the same league as Marmite (a salty spread made from yeast extract) and Princess Diana.
