Wanted: About half a million more labourers

Labour needed in the auto parts industry is set to double in the next nine years as Thailand becomes one of the world's top five vehicle exporters.

The Thai Auto-Parts Manufacturers Association (Tapma) said the country ranks 13th globally in automotive production, with 957,846 units estimated for all of 2011.

Tapma says production will reach 2 million units in 2012 and 3.2 million in 2020.

After high school, I worked at Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler for a few summers and a full year to help pay for university. It's not rocket science. After a few minutes instruction, you are on your own and after a few days, you get the hang of it the jobs are fairly easy and routine, so you can daydream a lot.Should be able find qualified people in Thailand.Think of hiring single mothers as they have incentive to work and do a good job.

Agree with rontorr's (Discn. 2) second paragraph. Plenty of unemployed, unskilled manpower in the villages which could be trained to work an assembly line. However, many of them look down on factory work and prefer to plant and cut rice a few weeks each year and then relax with a bottle. Lack of any work ethic. Vietnam now exporting most rice. Indonesia's vehicle sector rising to compete with Thailand. Basic English skills superior in Cambodia and Laos. But at home, 'mai pen rai' still reigns supreme!

In order to forget about safety one must first acknowledge that is exists, most drivers dont have a clue about safety.

Disc1: the majority of the cars assembled in Thailand are exported, so don't worry. People caneither afford them or they ride motorcycles or public transport.

There is plenty of manpower in Thailand, butte problem is to get the boys away from Mommies apron strings and actually go somewhere else and work for a living without Mommie and Granny to protect and coddle them

Thinking about traffic accident currently, if Thailand had more often celebrations like New Year or Songran, there will be nobody left to buy the car. We are too excited about having car(s)and forget about safety!
