Benz's sales sink last year

The massive flooding hurt Mercedes-Benz's market in Thailand in 2011 as the German carmaker earlier expected the nine new models launched in September to spur its premium car market in the final quarter.

In October and November, customers were reluctant to buy cars or asked the company to postpone delivery for fear of their cars being submerged by flood water.

It sold 4,684 units last year, down 1.37% from 2010, said a senior executive.
