Auto output better than expected despite calamities

Local automobile production in 2011 was not as bad as earlier feared despite natural disasters in Japan and Thailand that led to parts shortages.

Production resumed in December, up by 320% from November to 99,426 units, said the Federation of Thai Industries' automobile industry club.

But production for the month year-on-year was 28% lower, while full-year output decreased by 11% to 1.46 million units.
