Renaissance inspiration
Horacio Pagani, creator of the Pagani Huayra supercar, is a throwback to the Italian automotive pioneers of yore

Sitting in front of me is Horacio Pagani, founder of Pagani Automobili S.p.A. and creator of the Pagani Huayra supercar, which is rumoured to have a sticker price of about 75 million baht in Thailand.

The 57-year-old is a throwback to the fiery romantic passion of Italian automotive pioneers of yore _ a self-taught man who built and designed an F3 Renault race car at the age of 20 and was responsible for the Lamborghini Countach Evoluzione concept later in his career without the benefit of an engineering degree _ his name is on a street-legal car, the Pagani Huayra which is powered by the M158 engine that is a 6.0-litre twin-turbo engine that develops 700hp and 1,000 Nm of torque allowing it to shoot to 100kph from a standstill in 3.2 seconds and tops out at 378kph.
