Karun
Chandransu is running as an independent candidate. He is a former
Bangkok deputy governor and former chief executive officer of sky
train operator Bangkok Transit System Corporation (BTS). He served
as deputy governor under former Bangkok governor Krisada Arunwong
na Ayutthaya.
Mr Karun who has already resigned as a Thai Rak Thai list MP said
Thai Rak Thai would not support him in competing in the gubernatorial
election because its policy was clear, the party would not take part
in any local elections.
Karun said he may be “an old face”, but he was still able to generate
new ideas. He said his knowledge and experience could be put to good
use in Bangkok. City development did not have to solely rely on an
agreed budget since there were alternative ways to mobilise funds
for projects through cooperation and the participation of the people,
he said.
If he were elected, he would push for the extension of the sky train
routes from Taksin station to Phet Kasem road, and from On-nuch station
to Samrong in Samut Prakan.
He also pledged to speed up the city's wastewater treatment and garbage
management by allowing people's participation in some projects such
as garbage separation.
His campaign slogan is, “Bangkok can be fixed, and we can fix it quick”.
