@ comment 12

While i agree with your point of the population growth, how do you explain the world governments priority to provide fuel and energy over food.

When crops that would otherwise be used for food are used for alternative fuels, the argument seems odd. But no doubt the answer will be for a future greater good!

This is one of the big arguments amongst the food sector that i work with and with regards to its sustainability.

There seems to be no concern for land grabbing and the effects on the environment from the huge establishments and elitist.

I maintain, that in this case the law has to be abided by both rich and poor. And to say these people are causing havoc on the eco system is silly when you take all over issues into consideration.

As long as your not pulling the trigger, right?

I enjoy Khun Sanitsuda's writing and respect her deep empathy for poor people; the main drawback is that she is so one-sided with any discussion of poor people that she loses much of her credibility on this and other areas of discussion involving the poor.

J C Wilcox, however, is absolutely correct, and all points he makes are factual. By focusing on the facts of the matter and where these facts will ultimately lead, it becomes apparent that the solution must be absolute and all encroachment must end. This view focuses on the greater good for all Thais (and for nature and all living beings as well).

Lastly, as usual, Khun Sunthorn has sensible and down-to-earth suggestions/solutions in his comments.
Sanitsuda , Im afraid to say it , though it`s plain too see that Thailand is fast becoming The Land Of Hypocrites And Double Standards and it`s Not just the rich against the poor as you seem fit to allude too ! # 6 hits the nail on the head !
The poor wish to blindly jump on Taxsins , PTP`s and UDD`s colour coded self righteous band wagon in TAXSINS deceptive pursuit of just one of his persieved adversaries and coup plotters under the guise of Double Standards , In which Precedence has now been Set by Gen Surayud being made to not only hand back his plot of land , but dismantle and remove his house too !
On now realising that the land that they , thier relatives and some 300 thousand plus families also encroach on is also coming into question , it is "now" the rich stealing the poors only livelyhood , draconian , ulterium political motives , endemic corruption and systematic land theft from the poor ?
You really should be ashamed of yourself as yours is just the same as the anti farang attitude Thailand has , and Double Standards that farangs face and put up with while in Thailand ! We Love Farangs But We Love Thier Wallets More !
Gen Surayud should have his land returned to him and also have his house rebuilt and compensated for damages at the tax payers expense if you wish all the fuss of land encroachment not to be pursued !
After All , As you deep down would know Double Standards Are Double Standards and The Poor and yourself by the sounds of it , Only have the Self Righteous Massively Corrupt Futitive Criminal Taxsin To Thank for bringing them all and Double Standards into the spotlight in his Self Serving attempt to garner support and influence his pending frozen asset seizure case ruling as a , wait for it , Thailands Favourite 2 words for 2010 , Double Standards !

Few people think beyond themselves and self interest? In the context of this article, are poor people expected to think of the greater good as they attempt to eke out an existence? It's easy for someone to spout lofty altruistic philosophies about sacrifice and conservation when they don't have to worry about having enough food to eat next week.

If a country truly establishes an area as a reserve or park then the first order of business is to protect it. Intruders should be promptly and efficiently evicted. To wait years and then try to correct the problem is sure to cause hard feelings and hardships.

We must solve this problem at the root caurse level. The land square kilometers is fixed, and the population grows rapidly. My proposal is this: no one is allowed to own more than 50 rai. The law must be adhered to. So the authority is doing the right thing to evict General Surayud, and they are doing the right thing to evict whoever is breaking the law. I, personally, like the way the Chinese is doing and that is to rent out the land for 99 years. Not too many people live beyond 99 years of age. I myself, however, plan to live until 105 against my son's advice.

I refer to comment 8 by "just me". It is thinking such as this, or should I say lack of reasoned thinking, that is at the source of most of the problems we face. The planet and its resources are finite, particularly space, and it follows logically that population growth cannot be infinite. It does not require a great understanding of mathematics to work this out.

Human population increases exponentially and even with the current number stocks of fish in the sea are depleted and the tiger and his fellow wildlife are without habitat. There is a shortage of fresh water and starvation is common in many countries.
I could go on but it should be quite obvious to any thinking person aware of current affairs that we face a great crisis due to overpopulation. Show me a major problem that is not due to too many people and tell me anything that could be improved by having more people.

Not only is the increase in numbers eponential but so is the consumption of resources. With more and more people consuming more and more, it must be obvious that we will hit the proverbial buffers very soon. Unfortunately few people think beyond themselves and self interest. The name "just me" seems very appropriate.
