Hope on the GROUND !!!!

Are you mad...do you need stronger glasses?
There is no hope on the ground, especially as you say politics is 'back to normal' ... of what 10 yrs ago??
Your whole editorial is so OUT of sync with what the REAL people of Thailand think, you should not be allowed to hold a pen. Your arrogance is frankly quiet beyond compare and you knowlege...non existant...do you live in a bubble?

Dear Joe,
I live and work here in Thailand for the past 26 years, I'm married with a Thai Spouse, have a Thai son and pay my taxes in full. I never regretted so far to have made my home here, and always felt welcome. However to be a silent "Farang" as you would prefer, without having the right for freedom of speach in a polite way, is most probably what the yellow colored Thais would wish from us, but more to the worse, from the red Thais and those not yet having choosen a color.
As per my observations over the past 10 years or so, Thailand has changed rapidly from a peaceful authoritaerian ruled country, to a chaotic, miserably corrupted and moeny ruled country, gradually destroying the culture and very foundation of what buddhism has teached us to preserve.
Hatred and jealousy, suffering and hardship are just the beginning of what has yet to come should another 5 years the present way go by. It would be recommendable for all parties in politics to wake up to the fact that outside the borders of this beautiful country, the world is developing and striving for growth, whereas here we decline daily in our very basic performances as a state. Do not blame the "Farangs" any longer Joe, as in the past this excuse came handy, but earnestly look into your own country's mirror, and find the reflection of what's wrong with the picture here today.
I leave it up to you to find the truth, which will be shocking, at least for those seeing it.
I am Thai and would like to share the
first comment of John. His wording is quoted again as follows:

The red shirts are not just about Thaksin or saving the big boss. Its a reactionary group made of sub-groups with differing views including those who want the PAD brought to justice; those who can quickly see double standards emerging; those who disagree with the military's and Gen. Prem's involvement; socialists or left wing supporters who want more equality in Thailand; democratic supporters; as well as of course Thaksin's camp as you mention, and probably rural folk who have been better off under him than at any time before.

As a Thai, I support the red shirts until the assets of the PAD are frozen and as many of them as possible are brought to justice. I am not a Thaksin fan, but they're necessary to support because its the reds who receive the unfair treatment and usually on the losing end of just about everything in this country.
