I request my note be forwarded ... a letter to the editor:
Regarding the Larry King Live broadcast covering the death of Mr. Carradine, I take exception to references to Thailand as a 4th trying to be a 3rd world country as far as law enforcement cooperation. As an American living in Thailand, I can only praise the competency of Thai law enforcement skills and have a disdain for the ignorance and arrogance portrayed by Mr. King's guests during his broadcast, and his so called"experts" in the field. To live in Thailand, rather than view it from New York or Washington may provide a more accurate insight. The Thai authorities are more than willing and more than capable of conducting a complete investigation of the crime scene. How much more damage can we Americans do than to question one of our few international allies as to their integrity? A rush to judgment? Take a close look at our criminal justice system in the USA. Be assured this investigation will glean some results soon, not from Americans.

KHun PIchai,

I finally learn how to find my way around reading Bangkokpost. I found your piece interesting. I am not saying I agree with every thing you said. Here are some of my points.
Blaming the PAD for occupying government house is oversimplifying. Yes they broke traffic law and they are willing to pay the price, go to jail if that is the judgement from the supreme court. PAD has the right to assemble peacefully without any weappons. It is quaranteed by the B.E.2550 constitution which I voted for. I don't know what the relationship between Khun Sondhi Limtongkul was with Thaksin, but I think what he is doing now is acceptable to me, while what Thaksin is doing is not acceptable at all.
As to what do we do now, I think we need to educate rural people to understand DEMOCRACRACY. I remember I wrote to Bangkokpost in 1999 that we need to be patient developing democracy in Thailand, forget about our generation. We should do it for my grandchildren. I wrote an eMail to you sometime ago that developing democracy is like growing trees. Khun Pichai you lost your patient, I think.
The European Commission have just announced an agreement whereby English will become the official language of the EU rather than German, which was also considered as a possibility.

As part of the negotiations the UK's New Labour Government has conceded that some English spelling has room for improvement and they have accepted a 5 year plan to phase in the new ''Euro-English'' as it will be known.

In year 1 ''S'' will replace the soft ''C''. Sertainly, this will make the Sivil Sevants jump for joy. The hard ''C'' will also be dropped in favour of the ''K''. This should klear up konfusion and keyboards kan have 1 less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome''PH'' will be replaced with the ''F''. This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Government will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always been a deterent to akurate speling. Also al wil agre that the horible mes of the silent ''E'' in the language is disgraseful, and they should go away.
The real problems are simple:

-'Saving face' instead of doing what is right. In an effort to keep a pleasant atmosphere, many Thai people prefer to ignore real problems and wrongdoing, and instead 'put on a show' that everything is alright. This is partially because of the "sit down and shut up" education system.

-The 'education' system. Not only in Thailand, but in many countries now, education does not actually educate. Education 'manufactures' 'good citizens', young people who will work hard for low salaries and keep their nose out of the real world. The correct term is "human capital".

-The overall power structure. If any part of a government system is protected from criticism, the system will fail. That is all I am allowed to say on this matter.

The 'evolved' form of Buddhism. True Buddhism is about understanding the world and acting in good faith, avoiding causing harm. Over time, it has been modified into a system of control, combining superstition and various ulterior motives. In fact this is the same as what happened to the christian church after the death of Jesus. Buddha himself did not say that his words should be treated as the gospel truth. He encouraged his followers to truly understand the world around them and understand the possible consequences of their actions. He encouraged his followers to only believe and accept that which they were able to understand. Truth is the source of authority. Authority is not the source of truth.

What is needed is a change of attitudes, encouraging discussion and resolution of problems. No problem can truly be solved unless all of its root causes are fully understood.

I really don't understand in a buddhist country like Thailand why people are so cruel and so rude. The PAD,which represent a very tiny portion of population are able to do what they want to and the so called respected figures in Bangkok are reluctant to blame the PAD's actions. I think it 's easy to solve the problem in Bangkok if the respected figures in Bangkok don't take sides and the two opposing sides respect the rule of law.Letting the PAD continue to do like this will lead to the collapse of Thailand.
