Dara lives with her parents. Her mother has just given birth to a baby boy and has another four-year-old daughter. Dara's father owns the land on which the house stands. There is no electricity or water at the house and the family has to rely on water from a neighbour's well.

The father rents one rai of land on which he grows chilli. He pays 500 baht per harvest and earns 1-2,000 per harvest.

This can rise to as much as 4,000 baht if the chilli price rises. He can normally harvest every three months.

Dara likes drawing and reading comic books. She would like to become a teacher. She takes 5 baht to school and receives her uniform from the school.
