Protesters close road to parliament

Protesters led by the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) on Sunday used iron barricades to close down U-Thong Nai road near the Equestrian Statue of King Rama V. They said they have to blockade the road for the safety of incoming demonstrators in front of the parliament.

Police forces were putting up signs and distributing about 40,000 leaflets to the protesters, warning them to gather peacefully and obey the law.

At the protesting stage across from the parliament, the UDD core members took turns to criticise the coalition government led by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva. They said his government was formed illegitimately and it should dissolve the parliament and return power to the people.

The deputy commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, Pol Maj Gen Amnuay Nimmano, said the police will stick to the same measures as the ones being used against the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD).

The protesters could be charged with insurrection, should they attempt to stop the government from delivering its policy statement to the parliament on Monday and Tuesday, according to the deputy commander.

He said the police will use close circuit cameras to record activities during the anti-government protest and they will not take violent actions against the demonstrators definitely.

He also asked commuters to avoid using roads from Sanam Luang to the parliament during this period.

Up to now, no actions are taken against the yellow shirts yet. Inorder to maintain fairness, charge the list of leaders and people of PAD to show the rule of law is maintained. Don't just concentrate on Mr. Thaksin.

Is Thaksin really corrupted? I am not sure...but those country with a corrupt leader, the country has little progress and people are suffering with HUNGER. This is not true during Thaksin's regime, Thailand enjoy a growing economy and people were happy.I felt that Thaksin was portrayed as corrupt so to give a very good excuse to remove him.

If Thaksin is able to amass billion of US dollars during his reign in corruption, why it took so long to get evidence of him? Most of the cases on him is questionable as the Anti-Corruption Team could not find a very good reason yet to justify the US$2billion confiscated, which they claimed amass from corruption.

What a joke, weren't these Red Shirts screaming bloody murder when PAD was closing down roads and causing "disruptions" around the country?

They didn't even take a breath before doing it themselves.

I hope people in the middle start to realize that no one in the government cares about them - and all these protesters who - by the way - are a tiny minority - are nothing more than pawns to be used, battered, imprisoned, and killed.

Thaksin, Abhisit = shills that will do anything for power; neither has any principle or honor, and we'd all do Thailand a service by realizing that - and realizing that we the people hold the answers to our problems, not crooked politicians who for decades have hindered the progress of this nation - Democrats and Thai Rak Thai alike.

Frankly speaking, I prefer the red shirt to come out as much as they could. I would like to see what they can really do.

Come on, man ! If you think you are good enough. Let's get this over with in the next few days. Don't ley it drag on for weeks & months.

Then we will know what side the Thais really choose. Thaksin or no-thaksin. I am sure the answer will surprise many.

I quote: "Pol Maj Gen Amnuay Nimmano, said the police will stick to the same measures as the ones being used against the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD)"
In other words they will do nothing again.
Personally I do not think that the "red shirts" will perform such irresponsible actions as occupying an airport, but this is made so easy in Thailand, and nobody is proscecuted for it, that it is almost an invitation to do it again.

what a comedy circus to see all this starting again! on the same day that the Post proudly features a front page article announcing that Thailand is once again ready to receive tourists! as a frequent visitor, in oct. of his year i noticed a concern and worry on the part of many people that i had not seen since 1992. really a shame to see the country slowly grinding into political chaos. and in the face of a worldwide recession that will make it much harder for tourism and industry to recover this time. i always enjoy Thailand, and will probably come back again soon especially if the airlines and hotels are forced into throwing out especially cheap prices! but many people who do not know the country or who haven't been here before will not be as adventurous as i am!

Before the police take any action against the Red Shirts they better start taken action against PAD actions at the airport. Not one person has been charged in the airport takeover. No justice in Thailand at all.

I just hope that the actions of the terrorist organization PAD and the supportive DP party and other shadow figures behind the scenes come to learn that by overturning the government through both military and consitutional coups was not their return to ruling the country, but the actual begining of the end of their elitists and right-wing conservative ideology. This is the last generation in which these crooks will continue to play with the country like a puppet. I hope this process happens w/o much violence, but knowing how entrenched the military establishment and the royalists are, I don't think they are going to give up the power they just stole from the people without a fight.

Their Oxford educated puppy, good looks and all, is simply another dispensable piece in their game. His arrogance and desire to become PM will prove to be his demise as well. Next time he utters the words "rule of law under democractic processes" I hope he is doing it as part of some silly movie in which he appears, as in the real world he has done nothing of the sort, quickly arresting stone throwers while leaving terrorists like his own FM roaming the streets free and without consequence.

Man1: Thai people have become id-iots. This is a result of years of brainwash. These brainwash ads are everywhere. They are all around us even now in your room. You can see it when you look out your window or you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work, when you go to school. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.

    Man2: What truth?

Man1:. That you are a slave. Like everyone else, you were born into bondage... born into a prison that you cannot smell or taste or touch.
