The People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD)'s closure of Bangkok's two airports last year have cost the country 290 billion baht, according to a study conducted by the Bank of Thailand.

Entitled Thailand's Tourism Industry After The Closure of Airports, the study said the political crisis not only affected tourism industry but also other related industries.

"Based on analysis, total losses were 290 billion baht, equivalent to 3.0 of nominal GDP (gross domestic product)," the study said.

According to the study, the losses included 120 billion baht in the service industry, 90 billion baht in logistics and 60 billion baht in industry.

The closure of Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports took place between Nov 25 and Dec 4, as the PAD demanded the removal of a government led by Somchai Wongsawat.

    To Sloth and wtf.

You are all both so right in your views on the political issues in Thailand of today. It is nice to see that we have such enlightened people in our growing PAD movement. Now I fully understand that we have spent our money wisely.

Come to think of it. Now that we have kicked this toxic Usurper (Yes that’s THAKSIN) out of office and reclaimed our birth given right to govern this country, now we really have the opportunity to stop this nonsense permanently and set up hinders for such an obscure situation to ever reoccur again. These ignorant, poor, northern excuses of non human low life must once and for all learn the basic fact that their opinions never again will bear any weight when it comes to governing this country.

Now that we can rightfully claim we gained power in a democratic fashion, we must learn from history and set up solid barriers that secures our future for the next one thousand years and secure us the position where we belong; in charge of the political power of this amazing nation. To obtain that goal we must make sure we can stay in control of courts, the army and the police as we have established the last couple of years. This is the very important lesson history taught us. Then we of course must make sure that the press continue to write the stories we want them to tell. Obviously we’re in good progress there already.

But of course the sad fact will still remain, that there will no matter how much we suppress the media, remain a few of these dreadful, poor, ignorant losers up north and in Isaan. Well history have given us a lesson there to; we can put up special camps to relocate an re-educate these people in what is truly in their best interests and sole true conception of life. Simple, but the final solution to the problem this nation now and ever after is going to face.

And for this BLASTING AND IRRITATING DREY; please remember DREY that it’s not only Saddam who have weapons of mass destruction. I guess gassing you DREY will be the appropriate answer for you.

So thank you both, one more time wtf and Sloth for joining our fantastic PAD movement. Really hope you were satisfied with your payslip, don’t worry there’s a lot more coming now that we’re back in the control of government. You know what they say; if you’re not with us you’re against us and if so we must crush you literally like an insect.

To Levenfeld=WTF=Artit=John or whatever other alias you are using today. As far I know Goebbels will be your next one.

I see in some earlier post (#7) that you in your little conspiracy driven uneducated mind of yours, have big problems with the fact that most people in this world disagree with all your Nazi opinions on politics and of course every other useless opinion you create in your uneducated little brain. And that there are many of us who use our natural given right to express that disagreement on the internet, just as you unfortunately use your freedom of speech to express your gutter Nazi opinions, is obviously incomprehensible for you to understand.

Just for the record then. I don’t speak for the other nick’s you mentioned, I am not to be confused with Drey but I am absolutely True Democrat and I speak only on behalf of myself no matter what your shitty, Nazi brain think about that.

State sponsored terrorism, Got the job done. Just like the coup. Now they have a new tool in the toolbox to keep the sheople in line. Option "A" was PAD, Option "B" was a coup. Take your pick.

WANDEE - what you don't mention is that Ryan Air is sueing those 22 protesters for 2.2 million gb pounds to compensate for the disruption to flights.

Any chance of the leaders of PAD being sued for the cost of their illegal occupation of the airport?

Twenty two protesters have been sentenced after a demonstration that brought one of Britain's busiest airports to a standstill.

The group appeared before Harlow Magistrates' Court following the stunt at Stansted Airport, in Essex, in the early hours of December 8 2008. They all pleaded guilty to one charge of aggravated trespass.

Eighteen of the group were ordered to complete community service orders of between 90 and 50 hours.

Two protesters must pay fines of £130 and £160 each, one was given a referral order and one was handed a conditional discharge.

First off, how exactly do you formulate those calculations? I'm sure there was money lost, damages incurred, but how do you go about determining that? Are you counting the large amount of profits made within illegal industry? Are you taking into account the global economic downturn and the fact that foreigners losing their jobs probably aren't going to celebrate with a trip to Thailand?

Any politicians found involved with the PAD rallies should be out of office. Conflicts of interest can not be tolerated. Same goes with the UDD.

If it was an organic, people's movement, civil disobedience is ESSENTIAL to curbing abuse in government. Governments around the world are becoming more and more tyrannical in their desperation to control - and more than voting and hoisting signs in a park will be necessary to keep them in check. PAD's tactics were as close to a perfect non-violent civil disobedience action as one can find.

Tourism is a crutch in this country, as is foreign investment - and its only going to get worse as this economic downturn becomes a recession and then a depression. Let this be a lesson about the importance of national self-sufficiency.
