Deputy Prime Minister and Democrat party secretary-general Suthep Thuagsuban on Thursday expressed confidence that the coalition parties would gain at least 20 out of 29 seats in the parliament after the by-election on Sunday.
The by-election will take place in 26 constituencies of 22 provinces after the Constitution Court dissolved the People Power, Chart Thai, and Matchimathipataya parties on electoral fraud charges and disqualified their executives.
On Puea Thai party MP Chalerm Yubamrung's announcement to return as the new prime minister, Mr Suthep told the media not to give too much importance of the opposition MP, claiming that various information he gave were wrong.
Meanwhile, Election Commission (EC) member Praphan Naikowit expected the voter turnout for the re-election on Sunday should be around 60 per cent.
As for the Bangkok gubernatorial election on the same day, the commissioner believed at least 54 per cent of voters will exercise their voting rights.
