Rising electricity bills imminent

The fuel tariff (ft) on electricity bills from January to April 2009 is likely to increase by 14.85 satang per unit, Energy Regulatory Commission chairman Direk Lawansiri said on Thursday.

"The new ft rate will be put on the Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO)’s website at www.eppo.go.th to receive people’s ideas and comments before the Energy Regulatory Commission will meet next Tuesday and carry out the adjustment,” said Mr Direk.

The commission initially expected the ft rate would be raised by around 0.40 to 0.50 baht per unit. The current rate stands at 77.70 satang a unit.

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) earlier proposed for the ft rate to be raised by 47.88 satang per unit to cover the cost of electricity.

“The commission sees that the oil prices have a tendency to drop and it has assigned EGAT to shoulder part of the cost worth about one billion baht. The cost is expected to be paid fully within two installments,” added the chairman.

The cost of electricity is set to rise, but at the end of the article it is agreed that the oil prices tend to be on a downward path. With oil now cheaper than before they started putting the FT on the blls, how is it possible that
    a) we still have an FT surcharge?
    b) that it is even considered increasing it, when cost base goes down?

Mr. Abhisit answer to that is to increase their electric rate?

It is the payback to union workers, pure and simple.

This baby-face Abhisit guy is no more than an ass kisser, and he is very good at it.

In the past they always blame oil price rising whenever increase FT. This time, oil price drops, still not cover cost (Is this a valid reason?).

How come rising FT without any solid reason?
Is this to conpensate with project free use for less monthly users? By increasing FT will conpensate over free usage charge and make profit as well. HELP HELP HELP!!!!!!!!!

I do not understand - the price of oil (which I thought was the main supply of Thai Electricity) is way down from previous months (Thanks to President Bush lifting the ban on domestic drilling)! so why the current increase?
