Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva assigned related agencies to help solve websites insulting the monarchy, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said Thursday.

Officials from related agencies including Information and Communications Technology Ministry, Justice Ministry, Defence Ministry, Royal Thai Army and National Police Bureau were asked to join a meeting to discuss the issue.

"We discussed about closing down those websites," he said.

There is no need to set up a new unit to take care of this, Mr Suthep added.

So far, there are about 100 websites that break lese majeste laws, he said.

    DEAR DREARY DREY ----

Your comment is probably well intended, but you fail to realize the reality of the situation. Democracy in Thailand is a myth. Regardless of who's in power, it's a controled dictatorship. Not much different than the ancient Roman empire. The Romans also had a senate that served the Emperor instead of the people, and generals that didn't hesitate to eliminate opposition. Sound familuar?

First; There is no such thing as a "free and democratic" election process in Thailand, nor is there any form of checks and balances of power that protect the country's citizens from a dictatorship. If there were any checks and balances Thailand would be politically stable, and it isn't. The foundation of a democracy is more than a legal document that has no teeth. The strenght of a constitutional foundation lies with the men who are capable and willing to be the guardians of it's integrity. That character of patriotism does not exist in Thailand. Think about it. Has anyone in Thailand ever been charged, convicted and punished for being corrupt? I don't know of any. Not one, ZIPPO, Thaksin stands charged, but he'll never be tried. His conviction wasn't for fraud or corruption, it was for political malfeasance, abuse of power.

Thailand does not have a two party political system, and neither does the USA. There's several minor and insignificant parties that have little or no effect on the outcome of an election. Let me enlighten you a bit. In the USA there's Democrats and Republicans the two major parties, then there's the kooks that pop up in every presidential election like Jesse Jackson and his Rainbow party, Ross Perot running as an Independant candidate and then there's the Libertarian Party. I'm sure there's others, but who cares?

Do you recall the constitutional violations (voting by secret ballot) that occurred and was recorded on film in the snap elections after Thaksin dissolved parlament? Do you recall the voting fraud charges that ultimately brought down TRT and PPP? Do you consider corrupt politicians winning a seat in parlament by vote buying a democratically elected government?

Tell me, what constitutional protections does the Prime Minister of Thailand really respect? It's not equal justice for all is it? Is it equal opportunity? Nooo,, ask any Karen Tribe citizen, hell, they can't even vote!! Is it freedom of the press? Not in this lifetime. Critical remarks, comments and political dissention is not allowed. If you have a wb site the government will block it in a heartbeat if they don't like any part of it.

Tell me, what's the difference between a Prime Minister that ignores the laws of the land and a general that kicks his ass out and nullifies the same laws the PM abused? Does the death of 2500 people executed on the orders of the PM sound like a democratic government to you? There's a better definition - it's called a police state. With no means by the people and no will power of their representative to enforce the articles of their constitution, please explain a better option than launching a military coup? A coup may not be the most desirable solution, but it put the brakes on a full scale dictatorship which was close to being secured. Unfortunately, the "Fat Lady" still hasn't started to sing.

Have you seen the news in today's edition of the BP about the Chiang Mai policeman that absconded with over 1m baht for commissions (bribes) on traffic fines for 50+ of his fellow traffic policemen? Not exactly what you'd call an isolated incident of police corruption. Have you ever been stopped by a Thai cop? Let me explain their logic, it's very simple - money talks. That's Thai democracy at work. Try it in the US and see what happens.

Don't try to use the same style of propaganda bullshit on those who know what democracy is as you do on the ignorant and gullible.

Foreigners are required to comply by the rules of a country they enter. As such, they must respect the King. That is it! When the Thais go to the UK or the US, they comply by their rules and so do they when they come to Thailand. The Westerners have the freedom of expression ans so do the Thais, a culture of respect. The rules are the rules!

To All Foriegners who agree with all that has happened for "the good of the country" SHAME ON YOU.

As a foriegner living or just visiting you should be good teachers of Democracy for all Thai's.

You don't destroy the foundation of Democracy, the Constitution, it is all that a nation can stand behind hand in hand. It was, pre-coup, a similar constitution that we free people in UK, France, America, Australia, etc. enjoy. Everything we learned at school in our home countries about Equality, Justice and Freedom revolves around our constitution. We would NEVER allow it to be manipulated for the benefit of one versus the whole.

You don't throw away the two party system which are absolutely essential to a balanced government,

You don't abandon the checks and balances and equal powers between the Electorate, Judiciary, Executive and Military branches. If you don't like your leader wait until the next election and vote someone else in. If your leader did something illegal impeach him, prosecute him as you would all do in your birth countries.

You would never allow any of these things to happen in your birth country. You would NEVER condone it!

Why should you (how can you?) justify any of it here and not be labeled a hypocrite?

Shame on you to say that "Thailands Democracy" is different so this is "acceptable",

Shame on you to change the same principles you grew up with and cherish openly in your birth countries to be so easily abandoned,

Shame on you to justify a military coup! Especially in a country with a fledgling Democracy which just freely elected its first EVER Prime Minister by way of popular vote.
Each and every country post-coup emphatically stated "We do not condone any military coup that usurps the prinicples of Democracy and its freely elected leaders...we wish for Thailand to return, as soon as possible, to its Democratic principles by way of free and open elections...".

Shame on you to offer a future for all Thai's of nothing more than strife, division, polarization and military involvement for the foreseeable future.

One Man One Vote. We have only One Voice, make it count for something.

Be good teachers of Democracy. It is all we have to offer in all this right?

    To Jacko, Sloth and wtf.

You are all both so right in your views on the political issues in Thailand of today. It is nice to see that we have such enlightened people in our growing PAD movement. Now I fully understand that we have spent our money wisely.

Come to think of it. Now that we have kicked this toxic Usurper (Yes that’s THAKSIN) out of office and reclaimed our birth given right to govern this country, now we really have the opportunity to stop this nonsense permanently and set up hinders for such an obscure situation to ever reoccur again. These ignorant, poor, northern excuses of non human low life must once and for all learn the basic fact that their opinions never again will bear any weight when it comes to governing this country.

Now that we can rightfully claim we gained power in a democratic fashion, we must learn from history and set up solid barriers that secures our future for the next one thousand years and secure us the position where we belong; in charge of the political power of this amazing nation. To obtain that goal we must make sure we can stay in control of courts, the army and the police as we have established the last couple of years. This is the very important lesson history taught us. Then we of course must make sure that the press continue to write the stories we want them to tell. Obviously we’re in good progress there already.

But of course the sad fact will still remain, that there will no matter how much we suppress the media, remain a few of these dreadful, poor, ignorant losers up north and in Isaan. Well history have given us a lesson there to; we can put up special camps to relocate an re-educate these people in what is truly in their best interests and sole true conception of life. Simple, but the final solution to the problem this nation now and ever after is going to face.

So thank you all, one more time Jacko, wtf and Sloth for joining our fantastic PAD movement. Really hope you were satisfied with your payslip, don’t worry there’s a lot more coming now that we’re back in the control of government. You know what they say; if you’re not with us you’re against us and if so we must crush you literally like an insect.

No matter what this little Hitler does to curve the free flow of information; it will not work. It never works in any country at any period through out the world history.

Little Hitler may feel good of doing this, but it will backfire. There will be more and more and more resentment in the mind of people. You are putting fuel to the fire. People will feel hopeless of peaceful means and they will resource to other means.

This, together with the using of monarchy to oppress the opposition is the formula for disaster of the future of Thailand and her monarchy. Thailand had been through this road before; our little Hitler is too stupid to know Thai history.

Little Hitler, enjoy your government’s short life. You have no clue what might happen to you. All I can say is: It will be massive, unpredictable, unstoppable, and you will go down in the Thai history as the worst PM.

If you are serious about the future of Thailand, do two things: One: apply law equally, take legal action against PAD. Two: dissolve your government and have general election.

Failure to immediately implement the two actions above, I fear our country and her people will suffer. I am certain that you, your outlaw friends, and your masters will suffer even more.

Suthep, all you are doing is promoting the problem, you have no idea of the power of the Internet. You are doing your best to turn our younger generation of your government, and loose faith in Thai politicians.

As I said before it is this kind of stupidity that is hurting the Monarchy. I detest this as the Royal family are loved by the people including myself. It is my view Prime Minister Abhisit and your good-self are using the Monarchy as an excuse to hide the real reasons why this Government wants to block websites it does not agree with. Keep up this kind of politics and this current government will be short lived.

It's not fair to our beloved King.
